Virgin Voyages: Western Caribbean Charm on the Scarlet Lady - Day 4 (Part 1)

(This day was also PACKED with so much so I’m going to have to break this one in 2 parts.)

After leaving Costa Maya, we sailed overnight to Roatan, Honduras and arrived in the very early morning so when I got out of bed and opened the curtains to our balcony, I was surprised to see lush jungle and not ocean water.

We had pre-booked an excursion in Roatan that included a visit to a sloth sanctuary followed by drift snorkeling.

At the sloth sanctuary, we met white-faced capuchin monkeys and beautiful macaws, but the best part was meeting the sloths, whose gentle nature, slow movements, and sleepy-eyed charm reflected a calm way of life unhurried by the chaos of the world.

After the sanctuary we had a shuttle take us to our boat for snorkeling. What an absolutely incredible experience!! There is nothing like the aquamarine blue yet crystal clear, warm caribbean water. The coral reef in Roatán is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second-largest reef in the world, home to a diverse array of marine life and vibrant coral formations, making it a premier destination for snorkeling, diving, and conservation efforts. Our guide showed us rainbow parrot, blue tang and black triggerfish and different varieties of coral. Side note: after the trip I got caught up on Love Is Blind on Netflix and in Episode 7 they snorkel in Roatan. It was so weird to watch and think…I did that last week! Honduras is beautiful and while there I had the thought that it would be an amazing place to spend a vacation. I’d love to spend more time there.

Don’t forget to check out Part 2 of my Day 4 travel journal!
